Following a career in arts, design and retail, Julie Dare has now been working with decorative glass for six years. A recent addition to her portfolio has been the design and manufacture of glass beads. These are incorporated into her range of unique jewellery including earrings, bracelets, necklaces and pendants.

Julie prefers to work with borosilicate glass, being rewarded with an infinite range of colours.

Hot glass is such an alluring medium. Julie is inspired by the reaction of glass to the flame, bringing as it does, metallic lustre and subtle colours to the surface.

Controlling these elements as the molten glass flows contributes to the excitement she feels in the creation of her jewellery.

The wide range of colours achieved are dependant on the depth of the flame, controlled by the ratio of oxygen to propane in the mix of the torch.
